Choose The Fellows House for your Cambridge City Minimoon

Stay in your cosy new base at The Fellows House of Cambridge, with delightful new plant-based offerings on their extensive menu and exciting activities ideal for your hen do!

Foodie delights, historical tours and classy interiors all beckoned us on our trip to Cambridge to visit The Fellows House, part of the Curio Collection by Hilton. Neighbour to Jesus Green, the hotel offers 163 apartment-style rooms and is only a short walk from the River Cam, giving us the perfect base from which to explore the attractions of the city.

Thanks to the local tech businesses that make up ‘Silicon Fen’, the hotel has adopted a long-stay mindset, providing rooms with pared-back kitchens and living areas for guests to make their own over a longer stay. This provides a home from home ethos that makes you immediately feel at home entering the apartments. As seen with the hotel’s namesake, the different room types are all named after people associated with the city and notable Cambridge fellows, such as Newton and Attenborough, as well as art pieces all representing something to do with the city, providing you a touch of Cambridge history at every turn.

During your stay, The Fellows House provide a range of facilities to make you feel at home in your new surroundings. Settle into your stay with a dip in the indoor swimming pool, unwind from the stresses of wedding planning in their sauna and steam room or work up a sweat in their state-of-the-art gym. The outdoor terrace area attached to the gym acts as a base for outdoor weddings and engagement parties and all dolled up with fairy lights and food shacks creates a vibrant location for your celebrations. They also have townhouses on site which would work well for an upmarket hen do and a fantastic base for you and your wedding party to explore the wonders of Cambridge!

We were also lucky to sample some of Head Chef Kiran Selvarajan’s new menu focused around plant-based ingredients and innovative twists on traditional British cuisine at The Folio Bar & Kitchen. This eclectic space is flooded with natural light thanks to the lantern roof and boasts smart green leather seating and marbled surfaces, with a fully glazed wall that opens out onto the terrace. The new menu re-imagined delicacies with a Tofu Prawn Cocktail and Cauliflower Steak with butter bean ragout to put a tasty vegan twist on your favourites. Corn-fed Chicken supreme with a black garlic butter and a melt in the mouth soy roasted Pork Belly also adorned the menu, all paired with matching wines for a delightful evening. After dinner we sauntered next door to the Folio Bar for a Cambridge fellows’ inspired cocktail, this is a space that has the ambience of a private members’ club with leather textures and considered lighting but the lack of doors means it is open to all.

For lunchtime bites, the in-house Sage of Cambridge is a café that combines a community based feel with artisan food, and always champions plant-based and local produce. The gleaming marble surfaces and individual artwork pieces mean the venue can host events from day to night, including the exciting Cork & Canvas Cambridge class where we painted bouquets and sipped on classy cocktails, a fun and trendy idea that is perfect for a hen do at Fellows House. Trust us, the creative inspiration definitely flows easier after a few martinis!

Our time in Cambridge had to involve a dive into the history and culture of this city. We embarked on a walking tour of the area to visit the influential university architecture, learn about the scientific past of Cambridge and see all the highlights along the River Cam. You can even sit in the same pub that famed science students Watson & Crick would visit whilst discovering DNA and marvel at the apple tree that is a direct descendant of the shrub that dropped a fruit on Isaac Newton’s head to inspire his musings on gravity! Throughout our travels we used our Love Cambridge Gift Card to spend in the shops and support local businesses, a lovely touch and potential idea to gift all your wedding party to say thanks for all their support in the planning process! To finish off our adventures, we tucked into sandwiches and Prosecco as we punted along the river to see the marvellous city from the water and learn more facts and stories about this magical area.

My trip to The Fellows House encompassed the whole Cambridge experience, giving me a cosy and welcoming base to explore the area, learn about the history of the city and fill up on delectable food and drink. It is the home from home ethos of The Fellows House that forms a community of guests that will keep you coming back for more.
